After an ultrasound screening in 2004, Woodbury resident Nancy Cappello was diagnosed with stage 3c breast cancer — just two months after a mammogram had given her a clean bill of health. When she asked how that could happen, Cappello was told that she had dense breast tissue, which makes it harder for mammograms to detect cancers.
"No one ever bothered to tell me that I had dense tissue or what that meant to me," said Cappello. "So I ended up on this mission to inform women about their breast density." Read the entire story here.
